The elephant is habitually establish in the wild in the Hill Tracts and is also a cosseted animal.Elephant habitat in Bangladesh is restricted almost completely to the forested hills of the east, and even their habitat is giving way to monoculture plantations of teak, rubber, and tea.
Only 200-350 wild elephants are thought to stay alive, with herds moving between Bangladesh and neighboring India.
There may be about 50 domestic elephants.
